Welcome to Top Fish
Top fish is a site dedicated to fish and the ponds or aquariums they live in. You will find a huge collection of information and articles, both here and in the forums, covering everything from designing on a pond or aquarium, to the types of materials used to contruct them. You will also find details of the different types of filters and filtration systems, pumps, skimmers, UV Clarifiers (UVCs) and steralizers.
My hope is to collate all kinds of useful information that i myself have colected over the years and publish it all here to save you the same headaches i had! Being a community based site where everyone and anyone can be involved, if you feel you have something to offer then please register on the site and write your article. It's that simple.
As this is a new site it will take a while before all of the articles are written so please bear with us.

Pond Types

I suppose a good place to start would be to identify some of the different types of ponds. It’s important to plan and research the type of fish or wildlife that you plan to keep in your ponds so you can make an informed decision on the construction. Not all ponds are created equal. For example, if you try to keep Koi in a goldfish pond, you’ll struggle to keep them alive or at least healthy as the general design, filtration requirements and sizes differ vastly.
So what are the most common types of pond? Well, the two most common ponds by far are the Koi pond and the Water Garden. Whilst a Koi pond is exactly what it says on the tin, a Water Garden can be a Goldfish Pond with a few goldfish and some plants, a marsh or bog pond which will attract various amphibians or even a Swim Pond. The names are pretty descriptive as to their purpose but what does it really mean to me? Read on...
